As both your constituent and as one of more than one million members of the National Association of REALTORS, I remain steadfast in my belief that economic recovery depends in large measure on recovery in the housing market. That recovery is by no means complete.

The expenses of renting your property, such as maintenance, insurance, taxes, and interest, can be deducted from your rental income. You can write off gas and mileage, too.

Bottom Line There are more and more studies being done on the value of homeownership. We think we will trust in what our parents and grandparents said. Your mortgage payment is money you put into your savings. Your rent payment goes into the garbage.
